The famous quote says do not judge the book by it's cover but sadly whether we like it or not we are judged by our physical appearance first before our personality.
Image sells! Before you can sell anything...You have to sell yourself first.
In Psychology it only takes a tenth of a second (yes 1/10th) for a person to have a first impression on you based on your facial expression. - How Many Seconds to a First Impression? by Eric Wargo
Even the famous actress Lindsay Lohann was literally judged by one of her court judges based on her appearance. In the past when Lindsay went to court in jean shorts, flannel, hooker heels, cleavage tops and crazy makeup she was penalized again and again by one exasperated judge after another but-- when she went to court dressed conservatively in long pants and a lovely blue cardigan sweater set she earned the praise of Superior Court Judge Stephanie Sautner who told her “Just keep doing what you’re doing, you appear to be doing it well.”
Even the famous internet marketer Neil Patel has tried, tested and proven how dressing up is literally an investment and has a direct effect on your income. In his Article Titled "How Spending $162,301.42 on Clothes Made Me $692,500" He enumerated how dressing properly have given people an impression that he was successful thus it increased the chances that the clients he met up with wanted to be associated with him.
For many employees especially for Fresh Graduates it is inevitable that we have to start from the bottom of the food chain before we finally climb up the corporate ladder. Many believe that hard work matters, and it does but it isn't all there is to it.
Aside from working hard we need to dress for who we want to be. "We tend to bind up our identities in our clothes" ("Change Your Clothes, Change Your Life" by George Brescia).

The food was great, the set up was elegant, everything was perfect. I got there early and I had a short talk with Karmi before she had to do her assigned task, then I bought and started skimming the book.
The program started and I was left even more enchanted. There was a mini fashion show in the book launch and models entered the catwalk wearing unique and body enhancing designs by Ms. Delby. As a fashion enthusiast I really loved it! I might not dress as fashionably daily but as a child one of the things I aimed to be was a fashion designer. I loved designing clothes inspired by the anime and manga I read and watched.
Ms. Delby then gave an inspiring talk about why she wrote the book and how she also wanted to help and inspire others to reach their goals thru self branding. I was very interested in it. As a millennial it's true that we want a lot of things but that's only because we want to be the very best that we can be.
Because we want a lot of things it can sometimes seem daunting to think about how we can achieve them but Ms. Delby's talk and book has made it clear that it's not impossible as long as we know what our goals are we can reinvent ourselves to be able to reach them. One of the ways to do so is by self branding and by embodying our goals thru our self image. By reflecting what we want to be in our attitude, the way we dress and the way we communicate we become a step closer to our goal.
The event ended with a book signing and I was very happy to be able to have my personal copy signed. It was a very fabulous night and it's an event that has given me hope and direction on how to reach my goal.
When I got home I hurriedly read the book and I finished it a few days later. The tips were very concrete and it really pushes its reader to reflect and take action. There isn't an easy road to success but there is a very practical way to do it. Just follow the step by step guide written in the Purple Pig Wears Red Lipstick and surely you'll feel that you've taken a step towards your goal.

This is a Guest Post by Jemmarie Bocalbos, A Practicing Multimedia Arts Graduate from De La Salle College of Saint Benilde.
Last Sunday, i received a text message from my brother Rudy that said "Congrats Sis!". It turns out i was on the front page of the Sunday Business Section of the Philippine Daily Inquirer. It is the first time i am seeing a rather unsmiling version of myself stare back at me, wearing a black blazer and deep red high neck top. For me, this is a conservative, traditional business look... so different from my stylish creative outfits that i enjoy wearing to fashion events.
A friend even commented "where's the hat?" as i have been known to love wearing hats and hairpieces!
Yes, i admit it.... i am living a double life... and i am loving every second of it!
Moving between the fashion world and the corporate training world can be unsettling to some... but for me, seamlessly moving between the two gives me the best of both worlds... the creativity of fashion and the entrepreneurial smarts of business!
I am sharing with you this article below. May i make a correction please? For the record, I am a Certified Image Professional (CIP) and not a Certified Image Master (CIM). I am not one of the 9 Certified Image Masters as recognized by the AICI (The Association of Image Consultants International)... i should know since i sit as VP for Certification of AICI worldwide!
Now how does a Fashion Designer from the Philippines become VP for Certification of the world's largest Image association? ... that's for another blog post...
